Westbury Guide
Westbury's cottages with hot tubs offer a brilliant base for exploring Wiltshire's countryside. The town sits at the edge of Salisbury Plain with the famous White Horse carved into the hillside nearby - a chalk figure dating back to the 1700s.
According to TripAdvisor, top attractions include the 14th-century Westbury Court Garden, Bratton Camp hillfort and the independent shops along the High Street. The town is just 4 miles from Longleat Safari Park and 12 miles from historic Bath.
Westbury has an interesting royal connection - King Edward III reportedly stayed here while hunting in Selwood Forest. The town later became an important centre for the wool trade, with several historic mills still standing today.
Cottages range from cosy one-bedroom retreats perfect for couples to large farmhouses accommodating groups of 12+. Many feature private hot tubs in enclosed gardens, while others offer glamping pods with outdoor spa facilities for a more unusual break.

Sightseeing
Westbury's location makes it perfect for exploring Wiltshire's best bits while having your own hot tub to return to each evening. The White Horse is the obvious starting point - it's free to visit and the views from Bratton Camp are spectacular on clear days.
Longleat Safari Park (BA12 7NW, open 10am-5pm) is just 4 miles away and scores 4.5/5 on TripAdvisor. I'd recommend booking online to save queuing and arriving early to beat the crowds around the lion enclosure.
Stourhead Gardens (BA12 6QD) is 15 minutes by car and rated 4.8/5 on TripAdvisor. The National Trust site has an 18th-century landscape garden with a magnificent lake and classical temples. It's £18 for adults but free for NT members.
Bath is only 12 miles north with its Roman Baths (BA1 1LZ) scoring 4.7/5 on TripAdvisor. We think it's worth the £30 entry fee for the audio guide alone. The city's Georgian architecture makes for a fantastic day out.
Pet Friendly
Many Westbury cottages welcome dogs and the area is brilliant for four-legged visitors. The White Horse hill has plenty of open space for walks and most local pubs are dog-friendly.
The Longs Arms (BA15 2PQ) in nearby Bradford-on-Avon not only allows dogs in the bar area but offers water bowls and treats. Their Sunday roasts are legendary too!
Southwick Country Park (BA14 9QD) has 100 acres of fields and woodland with dedicated dog exercise areas where they can run off-lead. There's a car park (£1 all day) and a café serving decent coffee.
If you're bringing a dog to Westbury, pack a towel specifically for wiping muddy paws after walks. The chalk downland can get very muddy after rain and you'll want to keep your hot tub clean!
Top 3 attractions you have to see in Westbury
1. Westbury White Horse - This hillside chalk figure is 175 feet tall and dates from 1778, though local legend claims it commemorates King Alfred's victory at the Battle of Ethandun in 878. The walk up is steep but manageable for most fitness levels. From the top, you can see across three counties on a clear day. There's free parking at the bottom (BA13 4SH).
2. Old Town Hall - This Grade II listed building in the Market Place (BA13 3DG) now houses a small museum about Westbury's wool trade history. It's only open Tuesdays and Saturdays 10am-2pm but entry is free. The volunteer guides know everything about local history and will point out features you'd otherwise miss.
3. Laverton Institute - Another impressive building on the High Street (BA13 3BN), built in 1873 and now hosting community events and a monthly farmers' market (first Saturday, 9am-1pm). The architecture alone is worth seeing and the market sells amazing local cheeses and cider that taste even better after a hot tub session!
Is Westbury good for walking holidays?
Yes! The town sits on the edge of Salisbury Plain with dozens of marked footpaths. The White Horse Trail is a 90-mile circular route passing through Westbury. For shorter walks, try the 4-mile circuit from the town centre to Bratton Camp and back.
Where's the best place to eat in Westbury?
The Hollies (BA13 3DE) consistently gets the best reviews. It's a family-run café by day and bistro on Friday/Saturday evenings. Their breakfast is perfect after an early morning hot tub dip. For pub food, try The Horse & Groom (BA13 4AA) which does excellent steaks.
Can I visit Stonehenge from Westbury?
Absolutely - it's only 25 miles away (about 40 minutes' drive). Book tickets online as it gets very busy. If you want to avoid the crowds and save money, Avebury stone circle is closer (20 miles) and free to visit.
Is there public transport from Westbury?
Westbury has a mainline railway station with direct services to London, Bath, Bristol and Salisbury. Trains run hourly in most directions. Local buses connect to nearby towns but services are limited on Sundays.
What's the best time to visit Westbury?
May to September offers the best weather for enjoying your hot tub. The Westbury Festival runs for two weeks in September/October with music and arts events. Christmas is magical with the town's Victorian-style decorations.
Are there any good pubs within walking distance of Westbury cottages?
Most cottages are within walking distance of at least one good pub. The Lopes Arms (BA13 3DE) in the town centre has local ales and a beer garden. The Horse & Groom mentioned earlier is great for food and only a 15-minute walk from most central cottages.
